Before we say goodbye, we’d like to leave you with three tips on making the most of your time at a UX conference, or UX networking events in 2024.
Tips for Attending UX Conferences
Plan Ahead
Don’t try to attend every single keynote, panel discussion, and networking lunch break - it can be overwhelming! Take some time before the conference to decide where you want to spend most of your time. Make sure to include buffer time in your schedule so that you don’t have to rush from one presentation to another.
If you’re attending in person, make sure to wear comfortable shoes that won’t hurt your feet as you walk around the conference area.
Prepare an Elevator Pitch About Yourself
It’s always useful to have a short introduction prepared beforehand. When you meet someone interesting or inspiring, it will be easier to talk if you get through the introduction quickly. Of course, knowing the daunting “about me” answer beforehand will help ease your nerves.
What do you do? Why are you attending the conference? What makes your work interesting?
Focus on Building Meaningful Relationships
Aim to invest most of your time and effort in building a few meaningful relationships instead of collecting a large number of business cards. Meaningful professional relationships will benefit both of you for years to come. Business cards will sit on your desk for a while and then get trashed.
Of course, follow up with those you connect with. Conferences are a great networking events to meet people doing the things you’d like to do someday - put in some effort and don’t let these connections go cold.
